Accessible websites

No matter your customers' device or ability, your website is open for business. Accessible design is a key principle of our work — not a feature we charge extra for.

One in six people

An estimated 1.3 billion people — 1 in 6 of us — experience significant disability, according to the World Health Organization. Every one of them is a potential customer.

When a website isn't accessible, those customers are shut out: they can't read about your services, find your hours or fill in your form. Most of the time, the business never knows it happened.

Built in from the start

It is far easier to build accessibility in from the start than to fix it later, so every Fiji Tyme site is built with it from the first design decision. In practice, your site:

  • Works with screen readers. Headings, labels and descriptions that assistive technology can make sense of.
  • Works from a keyboard. Every link, button and form can be reached and used without a mouse.
  • Stays readable. Text with strong contrast that stays readable on a small screen in bright sunlight.
  • Keeps it simple. Clear words and clear choices, which help every customer, not just some.

Measured against the international standard

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) from the W3C are the international standard for accessible websites. We check every site against WCAG 2.2 level AA before it goes live.

Accessibility questions

What is an accessible website?
One that people of every ability can use: it works with a screen reader, can be used without a mouse, stays readable at any size, and doesn't rely on colour alone to get its message across.
Does accessibility cost extra?
No. It is included in every Fiji Tyme site.
Who benefits?
Everyone! Customers with disabilities first — but also older customers, anyone on a small phone screen in bright sunlight, and anyone in a hurry. Accessible design is simply better design.
